Introduction

Except for more wisdom, usually your body does not get better with age.  As we age, we put on extra weight, pounds and inches. We lose muscle mass and our cells decrease their natural ability to burn fat, sugar, and carbohydrates. Our digestive enzymes are decreased and that means our natural ability to burn our calories is depleted.  Our metabolism slows down because we lose the energy boosting hormones of testosterone and estrogen. We also produce less ATP as we age. ATP (adenosine triphosphate ) is found inside the mitochondria of every cell and is our body’s primary source of energy, power, peak exercise performance, and recovery from fatigue. Blood flow and oxygen to the brain, heart, and joints may also be compromised as we age. Insulin hormone resistance can develop and this increases belly fat, or leads to diabetes, fatty liver disease, or accelerated aging.

Everyone ages differently. Age is a number, aging is a choice.  Weight gain can be stopped by challenging and changing the way we live.  Aim for a healthy weight and waist circumference (40 inches or less for men and 35 inches or less for women). Being overweight or obese increases your risk for many chronic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease; colorectal, breast and other cancers; and type 2 diabetes. If you are overweight or obese, even a 10% weight loss can help lower your chronic disease risk.

To start our program complete these two steps:

  1. Select the plan that matches your age group
  2. Purchase the supplements recommended for your age group.

Remember with the help of a healthy diet, exercise, and supplements – the health triangle – you can reverse the toxic effects of aging on your body, mind, and emotional health.

Below is an explanation of each of our supplements.

Vitamin B12 Patch

Vitamin B12 is a naturally occurring vitamin that assists in protein and fat metabolism. We use the methylated form of this vitamin, methylcobalamin. This form is the most absorbable, even in people with an MTHMR gene mutation. The skin patch only needs to be worn topically for 8 hours for maximum absorption and it is more advantageous for travel and the environment. It can be used with any age group and the effects on boost in energy and metabolism are immediate.  People over the age of 50 may not produce enough hydrochloric acid in their stomach to absorb Vitamin B12 from regular food. That is why the patch is a great way to administer this important vitamin to those who suffer from Crohn’s disease, celiac disease or who have had stomach surgery (sleeve gastrectomy), a bariatric procedure.

In addition, people who are vegetarian or vegan and refrain form animal consumption, will be deficient in this vitamin and will need to supplement.

All ages are candidates for Vitamin B-12 patches.

Probiotic Weight Formula

The human microbiome is the name given to a collection of living organisms in our digestive tract that help eliminate toxins, improve digestion of fat, especially triglycerides; balance blood sugar; regulate food intake and appetite satiety, reduce insulin resistance, reduce atherosclerosis and lowers inflammation, that is associated with weight gain, obesity, visceral (belly fat) fat and assists our immune system. Evidence indicates that Lactobacillus gasseri may help people with obesity lose weight and belly fat. One study showed that taking Lactobacillus gasserii for 12 weeks reduced body weight, fat around organs, BMI, waist size, and hip circumference. Bifidobacteria microbiome also can have antidiabetic, anti-atherosclerotic, immunomodulatory, and anti-obesity properties.

Prebiotics are food for gut microbes and are thought to selectively stimulate the growth of beneficial bacteria in the colon.

Curcumin

Tumeric is the name of the plant that provides the underground roots with medicinal properties that contains the active ingredient called curcumin. Curcumin is suitable for aiding in the process of weight loss. It is sometimes called the golden nutraceutical because of its intense yellow  color. Curcumin works by reducing inflammation. When someone has problems with their immune system or develops stress, they develop chronic inflammation. When someone has chronic inflammation, the body responds by increasing cortisol and it will be harder for them to lose weight. Curcumin also aids the body with its natural cleansing ability by flushing out toxins that have built up in the liver. This process of detoxification can increase the chances of weight loss and can lower blood sugar. Other benefits of curcumin include an anti-aging role, neuroprotection and reducing the signs of dementia. These medicinal properties are thought to be related to fisetin, a naturally occurring flavanoid, found in fruits such as strawberries, and in curcumin.

L-Arginine

L-Arginine is an amino acid found in foods like dairy products and meats. It helps people with obesity by increasing ATP in the mitochondria and burning more fat, particularly the belly fat.  It boosts muscle formation, improves recovery after an illness (used in some post-op surgical patients), and increases nitric oxide which improves blood flow, by dilating blood vessels. Other benefits include prevents kidney dysfunction in Type 2 Diabetes, and increases brown fat production which helps our bodies burn more calories. We have found L-arginine to be helpful when there is a weight loss plateau, because it boosts the body metabolism and improves insulin and glucose levels.

L-arginine should be used with caution in anyone who has asthma or hypertension, since it can worsen asthma effects and lead to low blood pressure and interact with medication for high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diuretics. It can also reactivate dormant viruses.

White Tea

White tea contains the antioxidant EGCG, a polyphenol that helps with weight loss.  In contrast to Green- and Black Tea, White Tea is manufactured only from the buds or first leaves of Camellia Sinensis that are plucked and dried with minimal processing. Therefore, the concentrations of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) and also methylxanthines (like caffeine) are enriched in White Tea compared to Green- or Black Tea . These ingredients are known to exert biological effects on fat cells or adipocytes. White Tea acts in two different ways for weight loss. It decreases the number fat cells beneath the skin by increasing lipolysis, the breakdown of fat, and it decreases the fat cell size by inhibiting adipogenesis.

Digestive Enzymes

Examples of the most common enzymes are amylases that digest carbohydrates, lipases that digest fats, and proteases that digest proteins. Without these enzymes, we’d be unable to break the molecular bonds that hold our food together to unlock the nutrients and energy within. While our bodies do produce their own enzymes, it is clear that production can decrease with age and ill health. Incomplete digestion can lead to weight gain.  It can also cause inflammation, constipation, gas, and bloating all of which can slow down the metabolism.

Enzyme blockers are also being studied for long-term weight loss maintenance.

Omega-3

Taking Omega-3 fish oils may help with weight loss. It can increase the production of the hormone leptin, This hormone produced by the body’s fat cells suppresses appetite. Omega-3 is also anti-inflammatory; inflammation makes it difficult for the body to lose weight. Omega – 3 also increases insulin sensitivity and lowers the risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Coenzyme Q-10 (CoQ-10)

CoQ-10 is a natural antioxidant found in every cell in the body to help the cells generate energy. Coenzymes support enzymes in their various biological functions. Coenzyme Q-10 plays a central role in the production of the energy adenosine triphosphate (ATP) synthesis in the mitochondria.. It reduces the amount of white fat and inhibits the development and progression of obesity and type 2 diabetes.

One of the hallmarks of aging is a decline in energy metabolism in many tissues, especially liver, heart, and skeletal muscle. Tissue concentrations of Coenzyme Q-10 have been found to decline with age, thereby accompanying age-related declines in energy metabolism. Recent experimental studies tied insulin resistance to a decrease in CoQ-10 expression and showed that supplementation with CoQ-10 could restore insulin sensitivity. Coenzyme Q-10 supplementation might thus be a more useful tool for the primary prevention of type 2 diabetes rather than for its management.

There is some evidence to suggest that coenzyme Q-10supplementation may be a useful adjunct to conventional medical therapy for congestive heart failure and in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery.

Should not be taken by an individual on Warfarin since it may decrease the anticoagulant effect of  Warfarin (Coumadin)

Qigong course

It‘s a very low impact exercise course requiring no equipment and is suitable for doing alone or in a group. Based on an ancient Chinese tradition, this course reduces stress and increases relaxation. Consistent evidence shows it can be helpful to improve sleep quality for older adults.

Middle age adults who sleep fewer than seven hours per night have higher weights per height and are more likely to be obese than those who sleep seven or more hours. One study of almost 70,000 women who were followed for 16 years found that those who slept five hours a night were 32 percent more likely to gain a lot of weight (33 pounds or more) than women who slept at least seven hours a night.

Limit sedentary behavior, such as prolonged sitting or TV viewing. Get at least 150 minutes of moderate or 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity each week. Aerobic activity for at least 10 minutes at a time will count toward your goal. Add muscle-strengthening activities, such as weight lifting or push-ups, at least twice weekly.

Beta Glucans

Beta glucans are dietary fibers that are found in the cell wall of cereal grains, mostly in oats and barley. Other sources of β-glucan include some types of seaweed and various species of mushrooms such as Reishi, Shiitake, and Maitake

Also known as Polysaccharides, these plant fibers are resistant to digestion in humans. The benefits of beta glucan  have been attributed to their low-glycemic properties and their dietary fiber content, as well as, lowering postprandial glucose and insulin responses, decreasing cholesterol levels, and potentiating the feelings of satiety and appetite regulation.

Among soluble fibers, β-glucan is the most frequently consumed and is associated with reduced presence of insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, hypertension, and obesity, especially the metabolic syndrome and Type 2 diabetes.

In 2001, the Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine established an Adequate Intake (AI) recommendation for total daily fiber intake. For adults who are 50 years of age and younger, the AI recommendation for total fiber intake is 38 g/day for men and 25 g/day for women. For adults over 50 years of age, the recommendation is 30 g/day for men and 21 g/day for women.

Lutein and Zeaxanthin

Lutein and Zeaxanthin are two carotenoids and natural antioxidant compounds that are located in the eye. They are found in vegetables and other plants, but are  especially abundant in dark green leafy vegetables, such as kale. It has been shown to reduce the incidence of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and cataracts, two of the leading cause of blindness. Lutein and zeaxanthin filter harmful high-energy blue wavelengths of light. Lutein and Zeaxanthin also improve blood brain flow and supplemented patients experience significant improvement in brain processing speed, especially in areas of the brain vital to cognition and memory.

(for example, from our computer screens and cell phones)

and help and maintain healthy cells in the eyes.

     Other benefits include:

  • 12% reduction in the risk of having coronary heart disease (atherosclerosis of the heart’s own blood vessels, which may lead to angina and ultimately to heart attacks)
  • An 18% reduction in the risk of having a stroke
  • 25% reduction in the risk of having metabolic syndrome, the cluster of medical conditions that includes abdominal obesity, elevated blood pressure, elevated fasting glucose levels, elevated blood triglycerides, and low levels of protective high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol

. Studies have shown that lutein may activate branches of the immune system that suppress chronic inflammation.

Metabolic Xtra

Metabolic syndrome, also called syndrome X or insulin resistance syndrome, is a combination of medical conditions that places the individual at increased risk for heart diseases and type 2 diabetes. The prevalence of metabolic syndrome increases with age, yet it is becoming increasingly more common in children and adolescents.

  • Metabolic syndrome is defined as having three or more of the following 5 metabolic risk factors: Decreased HDL cholesterol (<40 mg/dL for men or <50 mg/dL for women), Elevated fasting glucose concentration (≥100 mg/dL or on drug treatment for elevated glucose), Elevated triglycerides  (≥150 mg/dL), High blood pressure ≥130 (systolic)/85 (diastolic) mm Hg or use of blood pressure medication, and Abdominal obesity (waist circumference: ≥40 inches [102 cm] for men and ≥35 inches [88 cm] for women)

Diets that are rich in whole-grain foods have been linked to a lower prevalence of the metabolic syndrome. The metabolic syndrome has been linked to an increased risk of both type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Recent estimates indicate that the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome is increasing in the United States, with an estimated 40% of men and 51% women aged ≥60 y affected.

Positive Energy Tea

This synergy tea blend contains many antioxidants. It contains Yerba Maté which burns fat and promotes body weight reduction and obesity prevention by its thermogenic effect. Because the tea also contains Panax Ginseng, it may increase a woman’s sex drive.  A combination of our supplement L-Arginine  with Panax ginseng (also known as Asian ginseng) may increase sexual desire, frequency of orgasm, and satisfaction with sex life in women with decreased libido, compared to placebo.

Blueberry Extract

Berries are rich in polyphenols (antioxidants) called anthocyanins. Anthocyanins are plant pigments that give berries their red or purple color, and they belong to the food group flavonoids. It has now been documented that blueberry consumption may have beneficial effects against obesity, diabetes, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (especially when combined with probiotics), and metabolic syndrome, enhance brain function associated with age-related decline, improve visual and vascular function, and provide other health-related functions, including anti-cancer, anti-arteriosclerosis, and enhance insulin sensitivity.

Vitamins

In addition to the Multivitamins that are essential to our vital frame, these daily One-Per-Day Tablets contain minerals and micronutrients that together complete the right formula for healthy living and to maintain a youthful metabolism and weight.
